English Language Skills 3 (ELSK 0703)

This course continues to develop the English language skills of second language learners in the Health Care Assistant/ESL Program and builds on the skills learned in English Language Skills 2. It focuses especially on the listening and speaking skills required to communicate effectively as a Health Care Assistant in an extended care setting, and on the Job Search Skills required to enter the workforce as a Health Care Assistant. Reading, writing, and vocabulary skills will continue to be developed, especially as they apply to the workplace. Reading, Writing, and Interactive Communication (Listening & Speaking) skills are taught concurrently and in conjunction with situations and topics in Health Care Assistant Clinical 3. Upon completion of English Language Skills 3, students have the communication skills required to provide personal care for clients and residents in an extended care setting and to interact with residents, care aides, and nurses.
