National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on-campus activities

Although VCC will be closed for the upcoming National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday, Sept. 30, our community is preparing numerous events on Wednesday, Sept. 29 to recognize and honour Indigenous culture and history, and commit to continued healing and justice.

Learn about UNDRIP

Display tables will be set up at each VCC campus where visitors can pick up free copies of the booklet outlining the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP), as well as learn more about residential schools and their timelines.

Orange Shirt display and pledges

VCC campuses will have orange shirt cut-outs on display with the numbers from each of the recently recovered Indian Residential School burial sites.

Blank orange shirt cut outs will also be available for folks to write and post a personal pledge for what they are going to do to address Indigenous racism, reconciliation and/or decolonization. All pledges will be on display at VCC’s Downtown, Broadway, and Annacis Island campuses from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors can also enter to win prizes! An orange shirt and the book 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act.

Buy an orange shirt

Add an “Every Child Matters” orange shirt to your wardrobe, available from the VCC Bookstore, with all proceeds going to the Orange Shirt Society and and BC Aboriginal Child Care Association. Update Sept. 28: Orange shirts are sold out! Thank you for your support!
