
The ABE Youth Program delivers ABE Intermediate (grade 10), Advanced (grade 11), and Provincial level (grade 12) courses to youth 15 - 24 years in a supportive, flexible, self-paced learning environment.
What you will learn
- Students enrol in courses of their choice to meet their educational goals
- All courses are provincially articulated and may be applied to high school graduation (Dogwood) or the Adult Graduation Diploma
- Students will meet the relevant course learning outcomes as stated in the B.C. Provincial Articulation Guide
- Students who complete the required courses are eligible to receive an ABE Intermediate Certificate
ABE Intermediate Certificate Core Program Learning Outcomes
Program learning outcomes include core outcomes that align with the required courses in the program and additional outcomes that align with elective courses in the program. Additional program outcomes will be dependent on the elective courses chosen by the student.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Apply critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills across a variety of disciplines.
- Locate, select, and manage a variety of information resources.
- Compose a variety of writing that is clear, logical, and structured.
- Demonstrate reading skills and comprehension at the Intermediate level.
- Solve practical problems involving fractions, decimals, ratios, percent, measurement, basic statistics, geometry, and 1st order algebra.
Additional Program Learning Outcomes (dependent on the courses chosen by students)
Upon successful completion of the program, students may be able to:
- Identify, describe, and use scientific concepts related to various areas of science.
- Identify interests, values, and temperaments that will inform a career/educational pathway.
- Apply study and communications skills required for success in further study or employment.
- Use current computer technology to communicate, do research, produce material, manage information, and complete assignments.
- Identify the characteristics of an active and responsible global citizen.
- Discuss social issues from multiple perspectives and describe their personal points of view.
- Discuss and evaluate Canadian history, government, culture, economy and geography from 1815 to 1914.
What to expect
The ABE Youth Program offers a self-paced, blended delivery model at the Broadway Youth Resource Centre. The program provides flexibility to students to learn in a classroom, online, or a blend of both. Students receive supported, individualized instruction and learn at their own pace to accommodate their needs and enhance their success. Students complete course assignments and assessments according to a flexible schedule they determine with the instructors.

- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous are strongly encouraged to connect with VCC’s Indigenous Education and Community Engagement team to learn more about VCC’s Indigenous Enrolment policy, application preparation/completion, program advising, and a range of other individualized services.
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school. (Some exceptions may apply.)
- Applicants must submit official transcripts and other documents as required by their course or program. Seats are offered to eligible applicants with completed applications, in order of application completion date (except for programs with competitive admissions). A complete application includes an application form, evidence of educational pre-requisites (e.g. transcripts), any required supporting documents (e.g. language proficiency, audition video), and the required deposit or fee payment. If you do not meet the requirements for the term applied, your application may be cancelled.
