Lyric Diction I (MUSC 1134)

This course prepares the student to sing liturgical Latin and Italian texts of the classical singing repertoire. Topics include the physiological understanding of articulation, refinement of vowel and consonant articulation in singing, use of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), use of dictionaries as tools for efficient preparation of song text pronunciation, comparative work with Canadian English articulations, acquisition of Latin and Italian spellings and ability to read in these languages.
