The following topics are covered:
Hygiene and Grooming
This course provides information on body hygiene, oral and nasal hygiene, posture, choosing clothes appropriate to interviews and the work site, and care of uniforms. Students prepare for their work placements by wearing their full uniform to school several times each month.
Effective Work Habits
This course discusses the types of professional relationships that exist at the work place. The importance of regular attendance, punctuality, following break routines and displaying a proper attitude is emphasized. Students discuss their concepts of good employee behaviour and compare it to their performance after each practicum. Emphasis is placed on team building, cooperation and taking direction from supervisors. Students also learn about what is meant by quality work, taking initiative and productivity. A workbook that emphasizes effective employee behaviours supports learning. These written assignments are most often given as homework and reviewed in class.
