Work at VCC
Bakers are made at VCC. Our baking programs mix theoretical baking principles with practical learning to ensure students are highly skilled and able to troubleshoot errors and manage product outcomes. It is this winning combination, along with a dedicated faculty and a student-run bakery that make our graduates sought after by the baking industry.
VCC partnered with the Potluck Cafe Society and Greater Vancouver Food Bank to make thousands of loaves of banana bread for people in need. In all, about 40,000 lbs of bananas will be used to make more than 6,500 loaves, with 10,000 eggs, 400 kg of flour, 500 kg of sugar and 400 kg of conola oil.
VCC is a partner with Barry Callebaut, worldwide supplier of cocoa and chocolate products. Barry Callebaut donates thousands of dollars of chocolate to the program each year, as well as moulds equipment, and student scholarships.
In exchange, VCC donates kitchen space for Barry Callebaut to offer development workshops to professional chocolate makers in the Vancouver area. VCC baking students are often allowed to participate.
VCC partners every year in November with the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund for a special baking class presented by VCC. This past year we offered how to make a fabulous pastry, mincemeat tarts and pies for the Holiday Season with all proceeds going to this important charity.
