Bachelor of Science - Transfer to UBC

As part of the University Transfer Science Certificate (UTSC) students may choose to complete a specific set of courses in order to achieve competitive admission into UBC Science.

No assured admission agreement exists between VCC and UBC. However, the following courses are required to be eligible for competitive admission into the 2nd year of UBC Science.

Students must complete 24 credits total (UBC determines what is counted for credit) which should include:

  • MATH 1100 - Calculus 1 (3 credits)
  • 12 science credits in addition to MATH 1100 chosen from the following:
    • BIOL 1100 – Biology 1 (4 credits)*
    • BIOL 1200 – Biology 2 (4 credits)*
    • CHEM 1121 – Chemistry 1 (4 credits)*
    • CHEM 1223 – Chemistry 2 (4 credits)*
    • CMPT 1010 – Introduction to Computer Programming 1 (3 credits)
    • CMPT 1020 – Introduction to Computer Programming 2 (3 credits)
    • MATH 1120 - Discrete Mathematics (3 credits)
    • MATH 1200 - Calculus 2 (3 credits)
    • MATH 1221 – Applied Linear Algebra (3 credits)
    • MATH 2251 – Calculus 3 (3 credits)
    • MATH 2310 – Ordinary Differential Equations (3 credits)
    • PHYS 1100 - Physics 1 (4 credits)*
    • PHYS 1200 - Physics 2 (4 credits)*
    • PHYS 1110 – Introduction to Astronomy (3 credits)
    • PHYS 1170 – Mechanics 1 (3 credits)

*Students who choose not to complete 1st year Biology, Chemistry or Physics must have taken Biology, Chemistry and Physics to at least the grade 11 level.

It is recommended that students also complete 6 credits of 1st year English:

  • ENGL 1100 - University Transfer English 1 (3 credits) OR ENGL 1101 - English 1101 (3 credits) and
  • ENGL 1200 – University Transfer English 2 (3 credits) OR ENGL 1102 – English 1102 (3 credits)

To achieve competitive admission into the 2nd year of a specific major in UBC Science the following courses should be taken at VCC (these need to be completed in the winter term in order to apply to UBC for the following September):

General

This program welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Program options for international students can be found at VCC International.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.

All students must meet the general college entrance requirements.

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
  • English 12 with a ‘C+’ or greater or English Language Proficiency, or equivalent;
  • Precalculus 12 with a B or:
    • VCC Math 0983/0993 with a B, or
    • VCC Math 1020 with a C, or,
    • VCC Math Precalculus Assessment Test (MPT) with a 72%;
  • One of the following:
    • Physics 12 with a C+, or VCC Physics 0983/0993, or equivalent, or
    • Chemistry 12 with a C+, or VCC Chemistry 0983/0993, or equivalent, or
    • Biology 12 with a C+, or VCC Biology 0983/0993, or equivalent;

prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
