Description
This course introduces students to pre-start and walk around inspections, starting aids, start up procedures, emergency shut down procedures, equipment operation and shutdown, heavy duty equipment lock out, forklift operation, electric vehicle safety, and the selection and maintenance of lubrication. Students can also earn a forklift certification. Topics included are from SkilledTradesBC. Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation Program (2025) sections A6 and A9.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe prestart and walkaround inspection (A6)
- Identify hybrid and electric vehicle safety hazards (A6)
- Select and use high voltage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage tools and equipment (A6)
- Perform start up, operation and shut down procedure/ emergency shut down procedure (A6)
- Select and use lubricants (A9)
- Perform heavy-duty lock out (A6)
- Operate forklift (A6)
- Apply Hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) safety protocols (A6)
