Description
This course introduces students to the pharmacy profession and the role of pharmacy professionals in providing health care services. Students will explore an overview of the Canadian health care system, including the roles and responsibilities of health care professionals, standards of practice, related federal and provincial legislation, and workplace safety issues. Students will be introduced to Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and practices within the context of healthcare. Students will also begin learning medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to the profession.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the structure and delivery of the Canadian healthcare system and the role of pharmacy technicians within this system. (1)
- Differentiate between the scope of practice of a pharmacist and a pharmacy technician. (2)
- Describe the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities of pharmacy technicians, including adherence to relavant federal and provincial legislation. (3)
- Maintain a safe work environment. (4)
- Use pharmacy references and resources to enhance patient care. (5)
- Explain the anatomy and physiology of the neurology, psychiatry, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular body systems. (6)
- Identify the meanings of common medical terms used in pharmacy practice related to the neurology, psychiatry, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular body systems. (7)
- Honour the cultures and histories of Indigenous peoples, recognizing the impact of colonization and historical events on their health. (8)
