Description

This course introduces the discipline of sociology, its major social theories and research methods, to study social structure and social processes, with an emphasis on formal organizations, culture and identity, and social stratification. The main theories in sociology are employed to examine the following areas: socialization, organizations and bureaucracy, gender and sexuality, culture and mass media, deviance and crime, race and ethnicity, and social stratification and inequality in a Canadian and global context. SOCI 1100 and SOCI 1200 can be taken concurrently or in any order.
