Description
This course prepares students to read manufacture information, supplier catalogs, and other specific information as it applies directly to the HVAC and refrigeration industry. In addition, it is designed to introduce students to the types of documentation available and the required skills needed to complete Refrigerant Logs and maintenance records. Students will gain a greater familiarity with the use of computers for accessing and processing information. As well, students will develop their ability to read and interpret drawings.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use various methods of record keeping following current industry standards.
- Complete refrigeration maintenance forms and records
- Describe/Demonstrate procedures for using computers and managing digital storage devices
- Identify standard piping symbols
- Identify scales used on pipe drawings
- Identify types of drawings
- Read and interpret pipe drawings
- Read and interpret piping specifications
- Perform basic drafting and sketching exercises
Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
Methods of assessment may include a challenge exam, submission of a product or portfolio for review, or a practical demonstration. Please contact the Department for details.

Instructional Strategies
A combination of lecture, demonstration, simulations, problem solving, practical lab activities and reflective discussion will be used throughout this course.
