Description
This course builds on foundational pharmacy knowledge and deepens students’ understanding of the pharmacy profession and the critical role of pharmacy technicians in supporting healthcare delivery. Students will examine the professional competencies required for entry-to-practice as a Pharmacy Technicians in Canada. Students will also explore emerging trends and issues, evolving pharmacy practices, and the expanding scope of pharmacy technicians. Research skills will be further developed and applied to provide evidence-based information to enhance patient outcomes. Students will continue to explore health inequities and contemporary issues experienced by Indigenous peoples, and develop an action plan to promote cultural humility, safety, and anti-racism. Students will continue to deepen their understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the professional competencies required for entry-to-practice as a Pharmacy Technician in Canada. (1)
- Discuss the role of pharmacy technicians in supporting health initiatives to enhance patient outcomes. (2)
- Discuss the evolving scope of practice for pharmacy technicians. (3)
- Examine emerging trends and developments in pharmacy practice and their impact on healthcare delivery. (4)
- Critically evaluate and apply pharmacy references and resources to support evidence-based practice. (5)
- Explain the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal, endocrine, urinary, eye/ear, skin, reproductive and immune body systems. (6)
- Interpret and apply common medical terminology related to the gastrointestinal, endocrine, urinary, eye/ear, skin, reproductive and immune body systems. (7)
- Promote cultural humility, cultural safety, and commit to anti-racism through action and reflection.
