ECED 2200: Enhancing Family Relationships

Description

This course develops student’s knowledge and skill in building positive relationships with families in a childcare context. Students will deepen insight into family dynamics, community and cultural influences, anti-bias approaches and the critical role of family/caregiver partnerships.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Analyze how specific characteristics of infants, toddlers and children needing extra support influence the relationship between the early childhood educator and the parent/guardian
Assess continuity of care and its impact on the relationship between the early childhood educator and the family
Evaluate challenging situations with families of infants, toddlers and children requiring extra support
Identify and access community resources for infants, toddlers and children requiring extra support
Design a maintenance framework for sustaining a positive relationship with families
