DRFT 2204: Project Information Management
Effective date
September 2027
School
Trades, Technology and Design
Description
Students are introduced to project information management in construction with a focus on structured data, digital workflows, and BIM-based collaboration (Meta Data). Building on industry standards for the organization and digitization of information related to architectural, mechanical, structural, or civil technology data, students apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) principles to information management practices, including standardized data structures, proposals, scheduling, and technical documentation. Students develop skills in managing project information and collaborating across disciplines to support efficient, consistent, and interoperable project delivery.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the principles of project information management within construction and BIM workflows.
- Apply BIM information management frameworks, aligned with ISO standards (International Organization for Standardization), to organize and manage project data and structures.
- Develop construction project proposals that incorporate scope, deliverables, and information requirements.
- Create and manage project schedules from initiation to completion using appropriate planning tools and methodologies.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and project communications to support construction project management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams using digital tools and BIM-based information workflows.
- Evaluate information management processes to improve efficiency, coordination, and project outcomes.
