Description
This course will further develop learners’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in providing radiographic prescription, implementation, and interpretation. This course will enable learners to develop their critical thinking skills in the provision of dental hygiene care, as it relates to dental hygiene radiographic services.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role of a dental hygienist in radiographic prescription and planning, and in radiographic interpretation as it applies to the dental hygiene process of care.
- Demonstrate novice skills in radiographic image planning.
- Analyze quality of radiographic images, identify common errors and how to correct them.
- Distinguish the difference between normal anatomy and the appearance of pathology, anomalies, restorative materials, and periodontal disease in radiographic images.
- Interpret radiographic images as it applies to the dental hygiene process of care.
- Apply descriptive terminology to describe oral pathologies and anomalies.

Instructional Strategies

- Radiographic prescription and the role of the dental hygienist
Full mouth series (FMS) planning, coding errors, and how to correct
DXTTR/Mannikin FMS assessment
Radiographic Interpretation of periodontal diseases
Normal anatomy, descriptive terminology, appearance of restorative materials, and developmental anomalies
