Description
This course introduces students to the basic business requirements for establishing and running a small business. Students will learn core skills through investigating the concepts of time management, human resources, inventory control, legislation and regulations, problem solving, and conducting industry and/or product research.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create a business plan that would support the successful establishment and operation of a small business
- Comply with labour legislation, collective agreements and organizational polices in the management of the performance of others
- Discuss the hiring, training, and performance management of staff
- Describe confidential and effective record keeping methods
- Apply principles of inventory management to the coordination of purchasing, receiving, and storage of appropriate inventory
- Discuss accounting, bookkeeping, and billing systems in adherence to legislation and regulations
- Apply an organized problem-solving approach to business issues
- Apply principles of ethical marketing and advertising practices
