Description
This course will provide learners with knowledge and experience integrating concepts of biomaterials, pharmacology, and nutrition related to oral and general health for the provision of dental hygiene services.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain factors to consider in the appropriate selection and use of therapeutic and preventive biomaterials for oral care and culturally safe and relevant dental hygiene services.
- Describe neurophysiology and pharmacology related to the management of client pain and anxiety.
- Explain the pharmacology of local anesthetic agents and vasoconstrictors, including complications and emergencies which may be encountered with their administration.
- Explain safe and effective techniques of local anesthesia.
- Calculate safe and effective local anesthetic dosages for a diverse range of clients.
- Implement person-centered and culturally relevant nutrition counseling that utilizes principles of motivational interviewing.
- Integrate critical thinking and evidence-informed approach to decision making.
