Description
This course will introduce students to writing poetry, fiction, and creative
non-fiction, to hone students’ creative abilities and provide them with a
variety of creative and critical tools that lead to more powerful writing.
We will be reading, discussing, and experimenting with writing short
creative texts and excerpts from longer works with the goal of practising,
improvising, and developing an understanding of the creative means and
modes available to creative writers and their potential effects. Together,
we will read and write voraciously and widely, experiment and take risks,
and cultivate a sense of how critical reading and creative writing are
related aspects of a creative writer’s practice.
