Description
This course introduces the learner to the causes and contributing factors of dental disease. Preventive materials, procedures and techniques and the role of the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) in the delivery of preventive therapies are emphasized.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain concepts of preventive dentistry.
- Discuss periodontal disease.
- Discuss hard and soft deposits.
- Discuss dental diseases.
- Discuss oral self-care devices and demonstrate their use.
- Discuss therapeutic agents and explain their use.
- Discuss fluoride therapy and application methods.
- Apply the principles of teaching oral hygiene.
