Description
This course introduces the learner to laboratory materials and techniques used in both commercial laboratories and dental offices. The fabrication of dental prosthetics, appliances and trays and the Certified Dental Assistant's (CDA) role in their fabrication is discussed.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the assembly and maintenance of dental laboratory equipment.
- Explore the manipulation of dental laboratory materials.
- Describe fixed prosthetics and procedures for fabrication.
- Describe removable prosthetics and procedures for fabrication.
- Discuss tooth whitening systems.
- Describe custom appliances and procedures for fabrication.
Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
PLAR is assessed through a challenge exam.

Instructional Strategies
This online course is offered with instructor support via web-based communication, email and a learning management system (LMS). Instructional strategies include but are not limited to case studies, research and online activities.
