Description

This lecture/seminar course is designed to introduce the student to the principles of oral self-care. Emphasis is placed on the Certified Dental Assistant’s (CDA) role during restorative dental procedures. Pain control methods, isolation techniques and the properties and manipulation of dental materials are explored within the context of a safe and accident prevention model. Additionally, students are prepared for their first practicum rotations in a dental practice setting. This course is part of the full-time Certified Dental Assisting Program.

Instructional Strategies

This is a lecture/seminar/case study/group work/online activities course designed to provide the student with the theory to support the clinical skills for the planning, implementation and evaluation phases of CDA practice and the term 1 practicum rotation.
