Effective date
September 2021
School
Trades, Technology and Design
Description
Students learn about process flow diagrams, tank design, and general arrangements, and how they are used in industrial design.
Year of study
1st Year Post-secondary
Prerequisites
DRFT 1010, DRFT 1011, DRFT 1012, DRFT 1013.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe process flow diagrams and how they are used in the plant design process.
- Analyze the mass balance contained in the process flow diagram and determine its correctness.
- Create a process flow diagram using standard industry design symbology.
- Discuss the design parameters needed to be considered when designing a tank or pump box.
- Identify the different components contained in a tank or pump box.
- Calculate the volume of tanks and pump boxes based on given engineering data.
- Draw a typical tank layout using standard engineering drawing conventions.
