Description

Students study vocabulary needed for everyday life in Canada. Students orally make and respond to simple requests, provide simple personally relevant information, and participate in short guided conversations, and ask very basic questions. Students continue to develop word attack skills (phonics) and sight-read vocabulary so they can read ESL materials on topic of personal relevance. Students copy and spell words and phrases, and write using structured and guided writing techniques such as filling in blanks, finishing sentence stems, and writing simple sentences and filling out forms. Possible vocabulary units include: occupations, community and transportation.
