Description
This course develops student’s knowledge and skill in building positive relationships with families in a childcare context. Students will deepen insight into family dynamics, community and cultural influences, anti-bias approaches and the critical role of family/caregiver partnerships.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze how specific characteristics of infants, toddlers and children needing extra support influence the relationship between the early childhood educator and the parent/guardian
- Assess continuity of care and its impact on the relationship between the early childhood educator and the family
- Evaluate challenging situations with families of infants, toddlers and children requiring extra support
- Identify and access community resources for infants, toddlers and children requiring extra support
- Design a maintenance framework for sustaining a positive relationship with families
