Description
This course focuses on the role of the caregiver for children 0-5 years of age with special needs. Course content includes principles of family centered care, inclusion, cultural competence and developmentally appropriate practice for children with special needs.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role of the caregiver for children with special needs underlining the importance of developing a positive approach for guiding, caring and interacting with children with challenging behaviours
- Identify concepts of care, the ethics of care and caring practices
- Plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum for children with special needs and identify the issues that may be faced
- Develop and implement group and individualized experiences based on observations of children with special needs
- Evaluate and adapt environments to respond to observed experiences of children with special needs
