Description

This course introduces students to a variety of Canadian/non-Canadian, classic and modern short stories. Students also read classic and modern poems and learn about poetic literary devices. Through these works, students learn to identify a variety of literary devices and elements, including symbol, theme, character, irony, historical context, and setting. In addition, this course introduces students to classic and modern plays and/or films. Students also read a variety of Canadian/non-Canadian, classic and modern novels. Through these works, students learn about genres, codes and conventions, tone and irony. Students learn how to write, research, and edit essays and paragraphs. Students also develop presentation and critical thinking skills.
