Description
This course prepares students in the development of foundational concepts of financial management in the hospitality industry. This enables them to understand how corporations make important investment and financing decisions and how they establish working capital policies. This course is taught using the standards of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP).
This course is part of the full-time Bachelor of Hospitality Management program.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and explain the major components of culture.
- Explain the Worldview concept and how it affects the way in which people provide services.
- Identify and describe the different layers of culture and how they relate to cultural and moral relativism.
- Explain how a cultural identity is constructed and how it affects individual beliefs, values and behaviour.
- Explain the characteristics of high and low context cultures and identify particular examples of them.
- Explain the characteristics of Monochronic and Polychronic time.
- Identify, explain and use the Hofstede's Dimensions to identify cultural differences and commonalties.
- Describe how language relates to culture.
- Explain the meaning of Ethnocentrism, Prejudice, and Racism as they relate to cross-cultural interactions.
- Explain the most common causes of cross-cultural conflict and how they can be avoided or managed.
- Describe and use cross-cultural negotiation and persuasion techniques.
- Identify the symptoms of Culture Shock and describe ways to potentially overcome it.
- Explain the main aspects related to cultural adaptation.
- Describe ways in which hospitality services can be improved by individually and collectively develop cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Lead and participate in formal and informal effective meetings.
