Description
Are you a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse returning to nursing and requiring a pharmacology review? This distance course lets you practice math calculations and refresh your theory associated with administering medications.
Proof of current BC LPN or RN license is required to register.
Registration is on-going for this course. Students may register at any time, and have three months to complete the course.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Review Standards of Practice, Legislative Acts and Legal Documentation related to Nurses preparing and administering medications
- Demonstrate accuracy in math calculations required for medication administration
- Understand the principles of pharmacology
- Understand the safe administration of medications, including drug calculations, principles of medication administration and drug distribution within the body
- Describe the effects of commonly used medications on the body systems
- Describe the effect of age related changes that influence how medications act in the older adult
- Explain the legal and ethical responsibilities of medication administration
- Safely administer medications using various routes of administration
- Identify nursing considerations in each Drug Classification
- Understand the difference between IM and SC injections
- Know common injection sites appropriate for IM injections
- Understand the basic pathology related to common disease processes
- Understand the basic concepts related to SC injections
- Define peak, onset and duration different types of Insulin
- List the appropriate sites for insertion of a SC butterfly
