Description
This course builds from the concepts in Semester 1 and provides students with the skills to understand the requirements to process Diagnostic orders. Students will develop information literacy skills in class by creating and using their own resources to complete tasks accurately and safely on electronic or paper health records. Students will continue to develop their awareness of the role and responsibility of the health unit coordinator (HUC) in relation to Diagnostic orders.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Distinguish between the components, classification and duration categories of Diagnostic prescribers' orders.
- Identify Diagnostic orders, and related terminology, utilized in acute care.
- Describe the function of Diagnostic Departments.
- Demonstrate the procedures to accurately process Diagnostic orders using patient health records.
- Differentiate between the various health records, including electronic and paper based systems.
- Apply information literacy skills, such as problem solving and critical thinking, when processing Diagnostic orders.
- Identify when to communicate with health care team members and departments as required to safely process Diagnostic orders.

Instructional Strategies
Classroom, simulation, guided discussions, demonstrations, group activities, and skill building exercises using case studies.
