Description
This course introduces students to hospitality facilities planning processes from a management perspective. Systematic problem solving and decision making techniques are applied to budgeting, capital expenditure planning and cost benefit analysis of repairing, replacing or disposing of assets in the hospitality sector.
This course is part of the full-time Bachelor of Hospitality Management program.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the different assets/facilities (e.g. guest rooms,corridors, public space, recreation, exterior areas and back-of-the-house) that exist as part of the hospitality business.
- Explain the life cycle of a hotel, and describe the types of renovations.
- Describe the elements of an assets management strategy in the hospitality sector.
- Differentiate between preventative maintenance and emergency repairs in the hospitality sector.
- Analyze capital investment plan strategy for a small hotel.
- Calculate the feasibility of a capital project using return on investment (ROI) analysis
- List the investment options available in the hospitality industry
- Design an asset management strategy for a small hotel
- Compare and explain the relationship between cost of maintenance, environmental sensitivity, and the impact on guest satisfaction and associate performance.
- Apply ethical decision making when managing capital and assets.
- Apply effective risk management practices in the hospitality sector.
