Description
This course is intended for apprentices currently working in the hair industry who have completed the Hairstylist Foundation program, Hairstylist Level 1 Apprenticeship or wishes to challenge the Hairstylist Red Seal examination.
This course provides students with a thorough up-to-date training experience in advanced techniques and services including; customized cutting and shaving, style up-dos and additions, chemical straightening, colour correction, wigs and extensions with incorporation of advanced business practices. Students train in classrooms and a state of the art salon at VCC's Downtown campus, with ample opportunity to practice their skills and to demonstrate their knowledge.
Upon completion, apprentices return to the industry with an increased, comprehensive skill set.

Prerequisites
Registered SkilledTradesBC Apprentice in Hairstylist Trade: Must have completed either Hairstylist Foundation Program, Hairstylist Level 1 Apprenticeship or have 5,400 hrs of trade related work.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate conflict management skills to resolve client concerns and complaints
- Customize haircuts using specific tools and techniques
- Cut unwanted facial and nape hair
- Describe the procedure to shaving facial and nape hair
- Style hair by designing up dos
- Add hair additions to design hair styles
- Identify different relaxers and describe their effects on hair, employ specific tools and techniques to chemically relax and straighten hair
- Perform colour correction by adjusting undesirable colour
- Apply and style wigs and hair pieces
- Use, maintain and remove hair extensions to desired hair styles
- Develop and business and marketing plan for a salon
