Description
During this course, students will develop a greater awareness of the role of colour in our lives. Emphasis will be primarily on the built environment both interior and exterior, but also will include products, fixtures and furnishings. Students will learn to recognize colour undertones and predict & explain effects created by colour as well as the ability to compare, create and design colour schemes in response to specific concepts of character, mood and criteria.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the role of colour in the elements and principles of design
- Describe colour theory terms
- Arrange colours to create a colour wheel
- Demonstrate values and intensities of hues
- Interpret and explain types of colour schemes
- Describe scientific, historical and psychological aspects of colour
- Analyze products and projects with respect to colour theory and its application
- Describe the process of creating a colour scheme
- Write concept statements for product/project colour schemes
- Predict colour role in a design
- Select and coordinate colours based on concept statement
- Present assignments using professional design conventions
