Description
This course introduces the basics of electronic discovery and litigation technology by providing students with practical information that can be used immediately at their workplace. Not province-specific, governing legislation in BC and other provinces will be covered.
Suited for Legal Administrative Assistants, Paralegals and other professionals in related fields.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the general legislation and principles governing electronic discovery in Canada
- Explain where electronic records reside, where to look for them and how to collect them
- Estimate data volumes and costs
- Determine how to reduce costs associated with eDiscovery and the importance of processing data
- Draft an electronic data exchange agreement
- Develop and approach the review of evidence and presentation of electronic evidence
- Grasp the importance of encryption and ethical issues
- Navigate through an evidence database program and explain the purpose of a database
- Discuss more advanced database functions including the creation of load files for the exchange of evidence with opposing counsel and the importance of conducting quality control and other checks
- Acknowledge the importance of best practices and protocols when dealing with electronic evidence
