Description
This instructor lead practicum provides students with an opportunity to apply the skills, knowledge and experience in the decontamination, preparation and packing, sterilization, and storage & distribution storage areas of hospital MDR Departments. Learners are partnered with working technicians and are provided with the opportunity to practice skills and develop basic competencies in all areas. Student learning is supported through daily post- clinical conferences, journaling, and learning activities to facilitate integration of knowledge and skills.
Pre-Requisite: Admission to the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certificate Program
Co-Requisite: MDRT 1201 Medical Device Reprocessing Clinical

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Accurately perform basic or routine MDR tasks associated with decontamination, preparation and packing, sterilization, storage and distribution
- Identify when to seek appropriate support to complete basic, routine and complex tasks
- Apply theoretical knowledge to clinical tasks and settings
- Integrate principles of infection prevention and control in all areas of MDR practice
- Perform entry-level MDR tasks in a timely manner
- Participate as a member of a collaborative MDR team with the broader healthcare setting
- Work safely in all areas of the MDR
