Description
This course will expose students to the fundamental components of business law. The course examines the legal principles pertaining to business such as torts, negligence, business ownership, Indigenous business law, personal, real, and intellectual property and electronic commerce. Case decisions will be examined to help students develop an appreciation of how the Canadian legal system works in actual practice.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the fundamentals of business law by summarizing, analyzing and presenting legal arguments and conclusions.
- Differentiate the types and sources of law and how they are applied in a business context.
- Explain the function and use of alternative methods for resolving disputes.
- Assess the legal risks of various business operations and choose the best course of action for protection against liability.
- Describe various torts and how they impact businesses.
- Explain the principles affecting contract law and contractual relationships.
- Describe the forms of Canadian business organizations and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Distinguish between intellectual property and other kinds of property.
- Describe the nature of electronic commerce and its impact on business.
