Description
E-commerce is rapidly changing the world of Canadian and international commerce. This course explores the increasingly intertwined relationship between information and communication technology and the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the practices and principles of using the internet and social media to market goods and services. Selected Canadian case examples will be used to illustrate critical issues that have arisen as a result of the introduction of e-commerce practices in the marketplace.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the history and development of internet marketing and e-commerce
- Analyze different online business models
- Explain the importance of security and controls when conducting business in an online environment
- Describe the fundamental components of effective user experience (UX) and user interface (UI), in website design
- Evaluate the success of internet marketing options
- Explain the distribution challenges that have arisen with the introduction of e-commerce techniques
- Develop social media strategies that can be applied to help meet e-commerce goals
- Explain how data analytics are used to provide business intelligence for e-commerce
- Discuss the ethical, legal, social and regulatory issues that arise in e-commerce operations
