Description
A practical course to implement basic piano skills for beginning and elementary keyboard students, including sightreading, transposition, technique, keyboard harmony and improvisation. Proficiency examination determines completion. 0:0:2

Prerequisites
Class Piano 1053 or audition. Note: All full-time students must complete at least Class Piano 1253 or demonstrate skill at an appropriate level of keyboard facility .

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Play in all major and minor keys
- Demonstrate that knowledge on a practical level through hands-together (HT) scales, triads, arpeggios and chord progressions in closed position involving primary and secondary triads in all keys and the secondary dominant in selected major keys.
- Sight-read HT with continuous rhythm a piece at approximately the RCM Grade Two level
- Sight-transpose HT with continuous rhythm to a key a third or more away from the original piece at approximately the RCM Grade Two level while singing solfa or numbers to the melody
- Sight-harmonize with continuous rhythm a simple melody of approximately eight bars using a variety of triads within the given key, including the secondary dominant, while demonstrating the ability to vary figurations in the LH accompaniment
- Play repertoire of minimum difficulty equivalent to RCM Grade Three-Four
