Description
Individual instruction is given in the student's major performance area. Included in this area, in addition to private lessons, is a master class for all students in the performance area. A jury exam must be performed each term and forms part of the credit. 0:1:0

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Play 5 basic chord shapes
- Play 7 major scale fingerings
- Play shifting major scale fingerings
- Play major and minor pentatonic scales in 5 positions
- Play shifting pentatonic scale fingerings
- Play shifting pentatonic scales with added chromaticisms
- Play major scale modes in 7 positions
- Play major 7, minor 7, dominant 7 and minor 7b5 arpeggious in 7 positions
- Play right hand technique and picking exercises
- Analyze major scales
- Play 7 major scale modes and corresponding arpeggios in 7 positions
- Play major scale modes and arpeggios placed within each of the 7 fingerings
- Play selected chord voicings

Instructional Strategies
Private instruction in technique, repertroire, style and improvisation. In addition, there is a weekly Master Class where students perform the repertoire they are working on for the other Jazz/Contemporary Guitar majors.
