MUSC 2103: Materials of Music

Description
A continuation of Materials and Structures of Music 1103/1203. Topics covered include contrapuntal forms, 20th Century harmony and serial counterpoint. Detailed study of major works in the classical and contemporary repertoire is required.

Materials and Structures of Music 1103/1203. 3:1:0. *Note: For the purpose of transferability to many post-secondary institutions, Kodaly Solfege 1101/1201 and 2101/2201 must be taken in conjunction with Materials and Structures of Music 1103/1203 and 2103/2203.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and describe the major forms of classical music
- Identify, describe and use analytical techniques
- Read solo, chamber, and orchestral scores
- Identify and describe formal procedures
- Identify, describe and analyze major formal designs of Western classical music
