This introduction to arranging focuses on the concepts of rhythm, harmony and form as applied to the principles and techniques of writing and arranging for the rhythm section in conjunction with a lead-line for a solo instrument or voice. 3:0:0

Jazz Theory 2115 .
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- The construction, composition, and transcription of bass lines and bass parts; drum figures and drum parts; and keyboard/guitar parts in basic rock, Latin, and swing styles
- The layout and notation of musical scores and parts
- Writing for trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone and voice (characteristics, transpositions and ranges)
- Musical terms
- The rhythmic rephrasing, melodic embellishment, and articulation of a melody
- Musical form - writing basic introductions, endings, tags
- Use of Finale music notation software
