Individual instruction is given in the student's major performance area. Included in this area, in addition to private lessons, is a master class for all students in the performance area. A jury exam must be performed each term and forms part of the credit. 0:1:0

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify, describe and use methods for practicing and practice time management
- Identify, describe and use scale, mode and arpeggio patterns
- Apply solfege and harmony to bass study
- Identify, describe and use fingering approaches
- Locate notes on the fingerboard
- Identify, describe and play various styles of music
- Compose walking bass lines
- Transcribe bass lines
- Sight read
- Identify and describe principles of amplification and acoustics

Instructional Strategies
Private instruction in technique, repertoire, style and improvisation. In addition, there is a weekly Master Class where students perform the repertoire they are working on for the other Contemporary Bass majors.
