Individual instruction is given in the student's major performance area. Included in this area, in addition to private lessons, is a master class for all students in the performance area. A jury exam must be performed each term and forms part of the credit. 0:1:0

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify, describe and use principles of song form and lead-sheet writing.
- Communicate with accompanists.
- Identify and describe time feels and differences in stylistic delivery.
- Identify, describe and apply principles of self-evaluation
- Use healthy vocal techniques
- Perform in a variety of situations
- Identify, describe and use concepts of repertoire selection for performance
- Perform in a variety of tempos and feels

Instructional Strategies
Private instruction in technique, repertoire, style and improvisation. In addition, there is a weekly Master Class where students perform the repertoire they are working on for the other Jazz/Contemporary Voice majors.
