Description
This course introduces students to the knowledge and skills they need to assist Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists to provide treatment and interventions to clients. Topics include gathering and recording client information, infection control protocols, confidentiality requirements, and teamwork. The on-line learning modules required by the Health Authorities for practicum placements are also completed in this course.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate written documentation using selected systems and record keeping forms
- Apply clinical knowledge to principles of universal precautions when performing rehabilitation interventions
- Comply with Student Practice Education Core Orientation (SPECO) requirements
- Apply the definition of consent when providing safe, competent, culturally safe and ethical care
- Describe the principles of confidentiality within a health care setting
- Work effectively as a interdisciplinary team member
- Describe professionalism within the OTA and PTA role

Instructional Strategies
Instructional strategies may include: Lecture, seminar, on-line learning, assignments, problem-based learning, videos, small group discussions, student-led review sessions and guest speakers. Role rehearsals, reflective practice and in-class presentations will also be included.
