Description
Building on previously learned knowledge and skills, this course focuses on the practical skills required to successfully assist the Occupational Therapist and their clients. The course emphasizes occupational therapy treatments and interventions for clients with neurological conditions and injuries and the promotion of independent activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use strategies and devices to optimize independence with ADLs and IADLs in clients with neurological conditions
- Perform upper extremity rehabilitation techniques for clients with neurological conditions
- Use common communication strategies or basic devices for the neurological client
- Perform treatment techniques used in cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation
- Perform treatment techniques for clients with spinal cord injury
- Perform treatment techniques for clients with progressive neurological disorders
- Demonstrate professional behavior in a simulated practice environment

Instructional Strategies
Instructional strategies may include: Lecture, seminar, on-line learning, assignments, problem-based learning, videos, small group discussions, and student-led review sessions. Lab activities comprise a minimum of 50% of the course in order to optimize student learning of the practical skills required to work as an OTA.
