Description
This course introduces the study of pharmacology and therapeutics. General concepts of how drugs affect the body, routes of drug administration and dosage forms are discussed. Drugs affecting the nervous, musculo-skeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular system are studied. Prescription, non-prescription and alternative therapies are included.
This course is part of the full-time Pharmacy Technician Program.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the principles of pharmacology.
- Discuss the principles of pharmacokinetics.
- Discuss the principles of toxicology.
- Describe the routes of drug administration.
- Differentiate between dosage forms.
- Discuss the pathophysiology of common diseases and disorders.
- Recall the generic and brand names of commonly used drugs.
- Identify the therapeutic uses of commonly used drugs.
- List the side effects of commonly used drugs.
- Describe alternative and complimentary therapies.
