Description
This course introduces students to community pharmacy practice and the pharmacy technician's role in providing pharmacy services. Prescription processing, compounding, third party insurance plans, record keeping, purchasing, receiving and issues pertaining to security are discussed. The lab component of the course focuses on dispensing and compounding skills.
This course is part of the full-time Pharmacy Technician Program.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe community pharmacy practice settings.
- Outline the role of community pharmacy in providing health care services.
- Process prescriptions.
- Compound extemporaneous products.
- Explain third party insurance plans.
- Perform purchasing and receiving duties.
- Discuss ways to enhance security.
- Perform record keeping duties.
- Use community pharmacy computer systems
