Description
At the end of this course, learners will be able to design, deliver, and evaluate adult education courses and programs in a manner that is compatible with the latest research on how the brain learns, remembers, and forgets. Learners will have an understanding of how the brain functions. They will be able to discuss intelligently contemporary issues in brain research such as the brain and mental illness, critical thinking, moral development, new theories of intelligence, differences in male and female brains, wisdom and intelligence and others. An underlying goal is to have students become very interested in brain research and its implications for education to the point that they will continue to follow developments in this field for the rest of their lives.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the principles of a brain compatible curriculum
- Apply knowledge of the link between emotions and learning to teaching
- Design curriculum for mindful learning
- Design evaluation techniques that are appropriate for a brain friendly classroom
- Nurture intelligence, creativity, and healthy emotions in learners
- Describe the nature/nurture controversy and epigenetics
- Describe theories of moral development and their implications for instructors
Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
1. Actual curriculum products / portfolio created and used by the applicant in their workplace which are judged equivalent to the curriculum documents required in the PIDP 3260 course assignments.
2. A successful interview with the SIE Department Head or one of the full-time SIE faculty.
3. An essay in which the applicant describes the development of their thinking related to the themes, issues, and concepts of the PIDP 3260 course.
