Description
This course is part of the full time Retail and Hospitality Careers Program.
Using a developmental approach, this course covers the essential skills needed in the workplace. Information is presented on recognizing and developing effective work habits, including appropriate interactions with co-workers, and taking direction from supervisors. Personal hygiene and grooming standards are identified and practiced throughout the program.
Students learn about employee rights and responsibilities in unionized and non-unionized settings, and are made aware of the Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Code. Students also learn how to identify and respond to workplace harassment.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- identify the importance of using an organizational tool to keep schedules,appointments and information
- apply hygiene and grooming principles to maintain a professional appearance in the College and work site
- take direction from supervisors in a respectful and courteous manner in the learning and workplace environment
- follow school and workplace rules and schedules consistently
- exhibit effective work habits in the learning and workplace environment
- maintain a professional appearance and conduct oneself professionally on a regular basis
- demonstrate initiative in the classroom and the importance of consistent productivity
- explain employee rights and responsibilities related to the workplace
