Description
In this course, students will concentrate on an analysis of English grammar for teaching purposes. Diploma students are also introduced to the theory and best practice methodology as it pertains to the teaching of English grammar to adult learners. In addition, learners are introduced to the teaching skills and techniques for presenting new grammar and organizing subsequent learner practice. Teaching Grammar 1 focuses on Beginner level through Intermediate level grammatical structures.

TESO 1101 taken prior or concurrently.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the main elements of the English language grammar for basic and intermediate levels.
- Analyse beginner to intermediate level grammatical structures for meaning, use and form.
- Design the presentation stage of a language lesson plan on a low-level grammatical structure.
- Design a sequenced set of activities for the practice stage of a new grammatical structure.
- Design a lesson plan for a grammatical structure situated in a social context.
- Critique grammar practice activities for context, form and pronunciation.
- Self-assess video-recorded grammar lessons.

Instructional Strategies
Students in the Grammar I course will experience an interactive and student-centred learning environment. In this course students are actively involved in small group learning and teaching activities as well as intense and direct study of the English language structures.
