Description
The Trades Specific Assessment and Evaluation course examines the practices that support the assessment and evaluation strategies used in vocational training settings and organizations. The course enables the participants to plan, construct and use valid and reliable assessment instruments that are appropriate to a vocational training context. The course provides the knowledge and skills to design and implement a comprehensive strategy for obtaining information that is used to inform learners of their progress both formally and informally and guide them to successful completion.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Develop and analyze evaluation strategies and techniques.
- Align evaluation strategies with learning outcomes and instructional activities.
- Create valid and reliable assessment instruments used in vocational training settings.
- Use formal and informal assessment strategies to provide feedback to enhance learning.
- Demonstrate ethics and professionalism in all aspects of the assessment and evaluation of learners.
Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
1. Actual curriculum products / portfolio created and used by the applicant in their workplace which are judged equivalent to course assignments.
2. A successful interview with the SIE Department Leader or delegate.
3. An essay that describes the development of their thinking on the themes, issues, and concepts in the course.

Instructional Strategies
Instructional strategies may include in-class workshops, active learning instructional strategies, experiential learning activities, discussions, group work, online activities, and self directed learning.
